A ‘Country School Remembers’- Ballymartin School 1822-1969

This booklet is now available in Kiernan’s of Borris, the Little Shop, Bagenalstown, O’Shea’s of Borris and Mick Kinsella at 0872037394. This 92 page book charts the long and colourful history of Ballymartin NS from the schools establishment in 1822 to until the doors finally closed in February 1969. The proceeds of the book will go to the Delta Centre, Carlow.

Ballinkillen Hurling Club’s AGM

The clubs AGM took place on Friday, November 29 in the clubhouse. The following are the Officers and Committee for 2014: Chairperson Frank Murphy Jnr; Vice Chair Tom Kinsella; Secretary . Committee: Sean Dalton, Paddy Brenan, Andrew Gaul, Patrick Minchin, James Farrell, Paddy Farrell, Nial McLoughlan, Tony Meaney. This is open ended, and can be added to at a later stage.

The sports prediction cards are now out and in circulation. This is a real teaser for sports fans and will really test your knowledge with 30 different events throughout the year [2014] to forecast, Cards at €10 are available from club members. also in Tim’s shop. Closing date for completed entries February 1.

Membership for 2014 now due.

Survey on The Family

The Association of Catholics in Ireland’s survey on The Family is a user friendly version of the Vatican’s survey on the family announced at the end of October by Rome in anticipation of an Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on The Family, planned for October 2014. This is a unique opportunity for everyone to have their views heard on “The Family” and related issues which impact on all our daily lives, an area which has changed greatly in society and within the Church over recent years. Let Pope Francis know your views by filling the survey at www.acireland.ie

Community Craft Shop.

Looking for Old Mobile Phones

Bagenalstown Scouts are looking for old mobile phones, not working, without covers, for a child in the area who will receive an IPad if he collects over 180 phones. If you have any lying around it would be very much appreciated if you would drop them through the Scouts’ Den post box in Kilcarrig Street.

Parish Bingo

Bingo every Wed. night at the McGrath Hall at 8 pm. Your support is greatly appreciated.

St. Vincent de Paul

The Vincent’s shop at Church Road is open from Monday to Friday 10.30am to 12.30pm. and Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. The committee would welcome any donations of toys, clothes etc. in good condition.

Stone Fence

Fenagh Improvement Group (FIG) would like to thank all supporters and sponsors of their recent draw which was a huge success. The stone fence will start early this year and will hopefully be an eternal feature of the Carlow landscape, similar to the Brownshill Dolmen and the Nine Stones on Mt. Leinster. FIG expresses their appreciation to the local traders, committees and industries – Tom Kearney, the Black Cat, the Hunter’s Rest, Burnside Hydracil, Fenagh Steam Rally committee, Carlow Precast Tanks, Carlow Concrete Engineering, Ashgrove Residents’ Association and Fenagh Field Day committee. FIG is deeply appreciative of the assistance of Carlow County Council in grant funding, Cllr. Jim Townsend, Cllr Michael Doran for contributions from their Council funding. Thanks to all sellers for their trojan efforts and in particular to Paddy “Salt” Murphy who sold more than 100 cards.

Weight Watchers

Classes every Wed. at 10am in Muine Bheag Community Centre, Church Road and Thursdays in the McGrath Hall at 6.15pm and at 7.15pm. All welcome.
