Table Quiz

Save Our Valleys-Against the Pylons. Table Quiz Thursday November 21 at 8pm in the Lord Bagenal, Cost €20 per team, €10 for student team. Please support this vital cause affecting all our communities of Bagenalstown, Fenagh, Newtown, Nurney, Oldtown, Leighlinbridge, Paulstown and many more. The feedback deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 26. Forms available and can be returned to the Little Shop, Kilree St, Centra, Main St. Borris, Parish Centre, Leighlinbridge and Kearney’s Fenagh. Forms must be returned by Sunday 24th. Add your own concerns to the forms, highlighting local historical buildings, ruins and plants or natural life of note. Demand the cables are put underground.

Parish Year Book

Bagenalstown Parish Year Book is now on sale in local shops. This is the 5th annual Yearbook and covers a wide variety of topics including a history of the Presentation Sisters in Bagenalstown from 1838 to 2013; a tribute to Fr. Tom Kennedy, Parish Priest in Haydock, Liverpool. A native of Kilree Street, Fr. Tom celebrated his Platinum Jubilee on June 3 while at home – having spent 70 years working as a priest in England. A wonderful achievement for a priest who is still working at the age of 96 years!; Dunleckney Stud and Stables 1942 to 1959 when the manor and estate were owned by the late Thomas Donnelly. This will make a wonderful present for people from the area living abroad. Committee who produced the Yearbook – Sarah Comerford, Michelle Doorley, Anna Monaghan, Ann Power, Fr. Declan Foley, Sena Harenberg and Michael Lakes.

Christmas Lights

B.I.G (Bagenalstown Improvement Group) will put up the Christmas lights this year. B.I.G. and Carlow Chamber of Commerce have received funding from C.C.D.P to purchase new lights for Bagenalstown, which will be used in addition to the old ones. Any business person who would like to help B.I.G’s fundraising efforts should contact any member of B.I.G.

E.Ryan Tours

There will be a bus to Inchicore on Sunday, Nov. 24 in aid of the missions. Mass on the day and blessing with St. relic. If interest contact Vera at 9727313 or Kathy at 9146371

Turkey Trot

The annual Turkey Trot will take place on St. Stephen’s Day (Dec.26). This will start at the Lower Stream (opposite Aldi’s) at 12 noon for walkers and at 12.30pm for runners. For more information contact Marjorie at 087 7732407.

Ducks of Borris

Please consider the book “The Ducks of Borris” by Fr. Pierce Murhy as a Christmas gift for those who are away and help the “Ducks” see more of the world! The books are on sale in local shops and some parish offices for €5. In this way you will be helping two worthy causes this Christmas – BEAM Bagenalstown and Borris Tidy Towns.

Fashion Show

Ballinkillen/Lorum Community Centre Club committee is presenting a Fashion Show on Fri. Nov. 22 at 8.30pm in the Centre, n aid of the new building project. Adm. €10. available from any committee member or contact Mary on 086 128 7733.

Water Safety

Bagenalstown Water Safety Week – presentation of water safety certificates will take place in Doyle’s Railway House on Nov. 27 at 7pm. All welcome.

Fenagh GFC

Fenagh Gaelic Football Club will hold their monster bingo in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow, on Wed. Nov. 27 at 8pm. Double book €10, single €8 and flyers €2.

Family Resource Centre Fundraiser

Major Big Bingo fundraiser will be held in Cillin Hill, Kilkenny on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3pm. in aid of Bagenalstown Family Resource Centre’s ongoing projects and services. . For further information please contact Bagenalstown FRC at 059 9722028.

Bagenalstown Community Craft Shop.

All items in the Craft Shop in Market Square are handcrafted by local people in the local community. The shop will have demonstrations on the following dates – Friday, Nov. 22 – Mosiac 10.30am to 11.30am. Sat. Nov.30 – Christmas flower arranging 11am – 12 noon Sunday, Dec. 1 Children’s Christmas Workshop at 2.30pm. Santa arrives at 3pm

M.S. Collection

Annual church gate collection in aid of the Carlow branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society will take place in Bagenalstown parish on Saturday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 24. Your support would be very much appreciated.


Dr. Colmán Etchingham, Lecturer in Medieval Irish History in NUI Maynooth, will deliver a lecture on Ogham Stones and Co. Carlow on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in Seven Oak Hotel at 8pm. Admission Free. All welcome.

Cunning Running

The Scout Section of the 1st Bagenalstown Baden Powell held a very successful inter – patrol mountain challenge recently. The patrols were put through their paces in a variety of scouting skills and navigational exercises and they came through with flying colours. Many congratulations to the “Snow Leopards” patrol who were the overall winners and to everybody who took part. The Scout Section would like to thank everybody who made the event possible particularly the Senior Scouts and Leaders who organised the event, Coillte and McEvoy coaches for their continued courtesy and cooperation.

St Lazerian’s House

Athletic Club
