Festival time is here
Welcome to Bagenalstown – in just a few days the town will be buzzing as we welcome visitors to join the community to enjoy a week-end of music and family entertainment on Fri. Aug 6, Sat. 7 and Sun.8
Building on its success to date the Bagenalstown August Festival Committee is committed to the presentation of a varied and entertaining programme for everyone.
The McGrath Memorial Hall will be the stage for the official opening of the Festival on Friday evening next, followed by The Festival Factor Talent Competition, one of the most popular events of the annual Festival.
The many and varied activities over the week-end include Country Market in St. Mary’s; the French Market in Bachelors Walk; Vintage Car Display; RDF Weapons Display; Photo Exhibition in the Estoria, Main Street.;Mechanical Rodeo Bull; Duck Race and barge trips on the river.
People who enjoy walking can support a very worthy cause by joining the Walk for Autism at 3.30pm. On Sunday there will be an Open Day at the Fire Station.
Children’s entertainment will include karting on Sat. at 3pm;
Puppet Show on Sunday from 2pm to 4pm; Children’s Story Telling Caravan from 3pm to 5pm.
Eanna Ni Lamhna will conduct guided tours of the flora and fauna of the River Barrow on Sunday at 2pm and 4pm.
Musical entertainment will feature Ray Lynam, Richie Kavanagh, Michael Joseph from the RTE Fame programme and local rock bands.
Indian handcrafts will be on display opposite the Library during the week-end at Sarani Emporium where you can see silk paintings, leather handbags, embroidered cushions, gold and silver jewellery and handmade greeting cards.
The Bagenalstown’s Got Talent Junior Factor will bring the
Festival to a close on Sunday evening.

Summer Camp
A week-long Art and Dance Summer Camp will be held in Borris House from August 9 to 13 from 10am to 1pm. for children aged 4 to 12. Cost €75 per child. The classes will be run by artist Michelle Byrne and dancer Jenny Mahon. Activities include tee shirt painting, mask making, clay modelling, painting, plaster and dance. Floral Festival Trail
Carlow’s Floral Festival Trail continues every day this week until Sunday August 8. The festival features workshops, informative lectures and demonstrations by some of the top names in Irish gardening, nature and food circles. Upcoming events include Aine McAteer at the Herb Gardens, Kilgraney House, Bagenalstown on Wednesday Aug. 4. An award winning cookbook author who has travelled the world as a personal chef for high profile Hollywood actors, Aine is currently writing on all aspects of food and health for Oprah Winfrey’s website. A Herbal Walk will take place through the gardens at 1.30pm.while Aine will conduct two workshops titled Herbalicious – the use of herbal infused oils and vinegars in cooking at 2pm & 4pm. Aine will demonstrate how easy it is to make palate-tingling, time saving and versatile infusions at home using fresh herbs, spices, wines and spirits. A day ticket costs €10, OAPs €5 in aid of the Hope Centre, Enniscorthy.
Kilgraney House also hosts a Flower Power Exhibition in Kilgraney Studio Gallery featuring work in a variety of mixed media including ceramics, demonstrating how the flower can be a powerful and diverse source of inspiration. Open August 1 to 15 from 11 – 6. Eanna Ni Lamhna will conduct guided tours of the flora and fauna of the River Barrow from the quayside on Sunday Aug 8 August at 2 & 4 pm. as part of the Bagenalstown Floral Festival.
Pilgrimage
Bagenalstown Parish Pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick will take place on Sat. 4 and Sunday 5 September. The bus will leave from outside the Parish Church at 5am on Saturday and the
group will climb Croagh Patrick with Mass celebrated on the top by Fr. Paddy Byrne. There will be an overnight stay in the Park Hotel, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo with evening meal. After breakfast on Sunday the group will leave and visit Knock for Mass, and leave for home in the afternoon.

River Walk for Autism
On Sat. August 7, during the Bagenalstown Festival, a river walk will take place between Bagenalstown and Leighlinbridge. The walk will start at 2 pm with registration at the Community Hall from 1pm.
Refreshments will be served after the walk and a raffle for all participants will be entered in the draw. Tee shirts will be provided for everyone who takes part.
The walk is to raise awareness for autism in Co. Carlow as, up to now, no Sapling School receives funding from the Government, so all schools depend on sponsorship and the generosity of the people of Carlow. The cost of taking part is €10 and hopefully with good weather lots of people will take part in this very worthy cause.
Sponsorship cards are also available from Ken at 086-3559533. it is hoped to make the walk a fun occasion for all members of the family. The School would like to thank the organisers and committee of the Bagenalstown Festival for allowing them to run or walk during the Festival week-end.
