Well done, Jim
Congratulations to Jim Dermody, Pairc Mhuire. on his wonderful achievement; he was recently awarded a Post Graduate Higher Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from Trinity College.
Jim is one of eight children born to Tom and Lily Dermody. He left school when he finished his Junior Certificate in the Vocational School and took up employment in the former Meat Factory in Bagenalstown where he worked for nine years. When it closed down he was 24 years old and he decided to continue his education and returned to the Vocational School when he did his Leaving Certificate in l995, achieving 7 As and 2 Bs. He was interested in a career in psychiatric nursing and studied for four years in Waterford Institute of Technology where he obtained a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing. He attended several courses in his chosen field in both Waterford and Waterford.
Jim worked as a psychiatric nurse in St. Dympna’s Hospital, Carlow, from 1995 to 2003 and transferred to Kilkenny when the Psychiatric Unit moved to St. Luke’s Hospital. He works in St. Luke’s as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and, as far as he knows, he is the only nurse in the HSE in the south east with this post graduate qualification.
Jim’s busy work schedule doesn’t leave much time for hobbies, but he enjoys swimming and watching soccer.
